After the Cuban war against Spain, United States won the control of Cu ba, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Philippines in 1898,. The dominion over the Philippines gained after this war, generated an intense political, ideological and cultural discussion in the American society. "The col onial threat" analyses the impressive documentary production that was generated by writers, militaries, colonial officials, journalists, mis sionaries and American travelers about the Philippines and its inhabit ants, and how it was used by the members of Congress in their discussi ons on political future of their colony. This work studies ultimately, the leading role that the American Congress took in the development o f practices, institutions and imperialists policies, from a perspectiv e that combines cultural, political, ideological and strategic approac hes.
