The Orwell Prizes
The Orwell Prizes are the UK’s most prestigious prizes for political writing. Every year, The Orwell Foundation awards prizes for the work which comes closest to George Orwell’s ambition ‘to make political writing into an art’.
We currently award four prizes: The Orwell Prize for Political Writing, The Orwell Prize for Political Fiction, The Orwell Prize for Journalism and The Orwell Prize for Exposing Britain’s Social Evils.
The Prizes are accompanied by an annual programme of events, debates and conversations delving into the issues raised, while the Foundation provides free-to-access resources about Orwell’s life and works, including original essays and exclusive articles. Our ‘little brother’, The Orwell Youth Prize, supports the next generation of political writers.
